Hi:

I am new to uship and I just set up an account and listed an item that I need shipped to me.

After successfully posting the listing, there is an option to request bids. Do I need to click on this? Will the transporters not see my listing if I don't request bids? Isn't that the whole point in listing an item?

Help.  Thank you.

"Request a Bid" is for if you would like to request a bid from a specific service provider. For example, If I had transported something for you before and you wanted to see if I could transport your current shipment, you would "Request a Bid" and search for me... etc. You can also search the list of "Service Providers" for service providers in your area, or however you would like to search. Please be careful when choosing a service provider... In the UShip user agreement it tells you that verifying the credentials of a potential carrier is the shippers (YOUR) responsibility! Now, how to do that in case you don't remember that part.. Anybody that is transporting "For Hire" across state lines MUST have ACTIVE USDOT and MC #'s (See my signature below) as well as the proper type of authority (Common Carrier, For Hire) and the proper amount of insurance! All of this is actually very simple to figure out. Go to www.safersys.org/companysnapshot.aspx and type in a prospective carriers DOT or MC# and their "Company Profile" should come up with all of the info about their company. If anything looks suspicious (ie: they told you the company name was Joes Hauling and the profile says Mikes Moving...) Then you need to ask more questions and decide if they are on the up and up or not. Next, in the upper right corner of their safersys profile click on "Licensing and Insurance" to view a report on the current status of their authority and insurance.
That should be a really good start for you... If you have any questions, please ask and someone will be by to answer them. Good Luck.
