Can someone help me?

I have this shipment listed and I was just wondering if everyone else does this? Some of you truckers say one thing and ask me to check out you and i do and the information I find is not the truth. A guy told me he could ship my Rhino and he was dot legal and stuff and said check me out, so I did and his thing says PENDING. Now if I am right he should not be doing this for me and also it says Intrastate only so does this mean he can go from one state to another or not? If he is lieing to me why do they let people like this on here? I been reading this board for a week or two and I just dont understand what goes on but I dont want to be a victum like others so can anyone tell me if I did the right thing. My son is bugging me to get this thing home and driving me crazy. hehe

I have noticed that there is not a lot of shipments being listed anymore and the ones that are listed just aren't being answered when asked questions. I have gotten to the point now where I really don't want to waste my time going on Uship anymore... I use to make a fairly good living on here but not anymore...Shippers post listings and dont answer,they get a outrageous bid and they abandon the listing, or they pick and choose who they want to answer. I have 110 positive feedbacks and no negative ones,I am a USDOT registered service provider. They will answer everybody elses questions and skip over mine... They answer questions to people who have zero feedbacks and are not authorized to transport by the USDOT. I am not long for this site anymore and I continue to get dicouraged by the shippers who are to ignorant or dont care and fail to realize the risk they take by hiring unliscensed/unpermitted service providers.

Need Help Understanding SELF-MOVE

I have to move two vehicles and (I estimate) about 18 - 20 linear feet of household goods from NH to TX at the end of September. I need to figure out the cheapest methods to do this, but the details are over my head. So I want to see if anyone has any thoughts or advice.

We plan to get pretty much everything boxed up and ready to go in advance. We're looking into a Self-Move (get a trailer, load it ourselves over a day or two, then driver picks it up, drives from NH to TX with it, leaves it while we unload, then trailer gets dropped off).

We're also thinking if we can get a good price, would it be worthwhile shipping one of the vehicles with the household goods? The second vehicle I am shipping in advance, and trying to get a good price. Then it will be in TX waiting for us when we get there.

So how do I go about getting one of these one way half length trailers?

Or.... is there a better way to do this that I'm not thinking of?

Book it Now

The Book it Now feature is pretty much useless to me as a TSP, because I have to ask questions to the shipper before booking, and it can take hours or days to get a reply. If I used Book it Now, I believe I would get excessive cancellations.

What's needed for Book it Now is enough info in the listing so that questions are not needed. Some rules changes should be made for this purpose.

A good start would be to require specific dates for pickup and dropoff in order to enable the Book it Now feature. These dates could be long time frames if the shipper wants, just so long as there are specific dates. There is too much variation in what people mean by "flexible" for it to work with Book it Now.

Also, as a driveaway TSP, I cannot rely on vehicles listed with the driveaway option as being driveable, which is another reason not to use Book it Now. The listing process needs to vividly explain to shippers that they are offering to have their vehicle driven under its own power. There are probably some similar problems that come up with other specialty shipments.

An alternative solution to the Book it Now problem would be to not count cancellations of Book it Now shipments. But then people could abuse the system by communicating directly and then canceling without penalty.

It would be nice to have a useful Book it Now feature, and I believe it is possible. Perhaps some people will contribute ideas and uShip will make some changes.

New Shipments and auction shipments

I have noticed that Uship has been improving the site and I would like to see a category dedicated only to shipments that haven't been won yet. I have seen numerous shipments that say "NO" for auction Items but when you ask them a question they say they are bidding on it still...HMMM sounds like an auction item to me! Why can't Uship color code auction items or put them into a seperate category until the auction is over then place it into the already won category after the auction is won..That way we don't have to waste time making out bids for items that haven't been won yet. I would like to not be bothered with them as they are a "BIG" waste of time. Also I have seen listings that the shipper said they didn't win the item...but they left the listing on there. I flag them as abandoned and the shipper updates the listing as still active.... Lets keep the Not yet won items into a seperate category and make it so that when the shipper wins they have to mark it as won before it gets placed into the ready to ship Active shipments.

Trying to get a shed shipped

I have a 10x14 shed I am trying to ship about 120 miles. Three days and no bids or anything. I am wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I haven't won the ebay auction on it, but no one bids on these things, so as soon as I know how much it will cost, I can bid and win the shed. I hope that someone can even give me a ballpark estimate because it seems the shipping calculator provided is not reliable. Thanks, Phil

Excessive cancelations

I have shipped 5 vehicles through uShip, and will likely be shipping more as the economy weakens (we are a finance company).

I have had two problems.
The first was that the guy I hired from here picked up my van and then disappeared for 2 weeks. Did not deliver the van and would not return my calls. I had to report the van as stolen (not an easy task consider the van was going from one state to another, and I was in a third state.) When the detective called the guy, the transporter called me and told me where my van was. Cost me an additional $250 in storage charges since he left it in a airport short term parking lot.

So I learned my lesson about using illegal transporters (I did not know there was a such a thing until all that happened.)

Next one a few months later, after I hired the shipper he ended up not being able to get to where my van was, so had to cancel. Nice guy and all.

So I canceled both of these so I could get a refund of my "deposit".

Now they reduce my feedback rating because of excessive cancellations.

Seems kind of petty to me, and would just drive people away from this site instead of towards it.

How soon should I post a shipment?

Listings go on forever with no responses to questions posed, no recognition of bids placed or any other form of common courtesy. It seems to me that Uship does a disservice to the shippers by not mandating listers to log into their accounts at least every two days. Now how inconvenient could that possibly be for the shipper? Then at least the service provider could tell the account was alive and well!

posting an add for bid before they haqve aquired is a big waste of shippers time

Your frustrating bidders for which without you have no reason to post them. The shipments are weeks or months away and your site of coarse is mostly for back hauls to complete a trip without a dead load.

Quote Only Listings?

We all know that many of the "Shippers" on this site are actually only looking for quotes without the intent of actually shipping something right now, but perhaps in the future or are considering buying something but want an idea of how much it is going to cost them to get it home before they make a purchase offer...

Maybe UShip could have a "Quote Only" listing for Shippers. When a Shipper goes to list something they would be asked if they are ready to ship or just looking for "Quotes" or estimates. This way the shipper could get realistic estimates from qualified carriers without being considered a 'Dead Listing' or a 'Silent Lister' etc and the TSP's could give realistic estimates without wondering how long is this shipper going to take to decide, I don't know if I'll be in that area, I need to cancel my bid.... etc. etc. etc.

I believe that this would be most beneficial to all if only 'Qualified' carriers were allowed to give estimates on 'Quote only" listings. I know that you aren't going to do anything with compliant vs non-compliant carriers, so qualify them based on their feedback number and rating...

Then if the 'Estimate Seeker' (who is now a better informed individual and has all their ducks in a row) decides that they need to become an actual Shipper, they could transform it into a real listing and open bidding to everybody!

I would love to hear from both the UShip team and the other members of this Forum on this!

Yesterday I listed my 1st shipment on uship. When I go to my uship - it shows that the shipment is active, But when I search for it under the "Find Shipments" tab - it isn't in the list.

Does any one know what's wrong?

More often than not, when a shipper lists the same to and from zipcodes, they've made a mistake, or don't know how to list their shipment.

If the shipper attempts to use the same origin and destination zipcode, make them answer another question confirming that this is a local move.

I have been trying to post a shipment and have a problem. When I hit continue it says that I have to clear my cookies. I clear my cookies, reopen browser, list it again and again I get a message that says I must clear my cookies.

Where does listing detailed description go

I made a listing with a detailed description of the items to be shipped. This is becuase I am asking the shipper to pack them for me. Have gone in twice to tweak the description, but each time I found that the detailed description is gone! I also do not see exactly where this detailed description should show up when people are viewing my listing. I would guess under "Freight Listing Information", but I don't see it there. Am I doing something wrong?

I have placed an ad for a move I need to do for my StepDaughter. The items I am shipping are kinda of odd -- some baby stuff some boxes a bike. I listed this as a small 1 room studio -- is that correct (tried to give a good description as well). As of yet, I haven't gotten a question or a bid. Did I list this wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW: the end date (which I didn't have any way to change) is later than I can afford, is there anyway to fix it?

My question is simple...If I sent out bid invitations, and meanwhile I received an un-invited bid, do the rules allow me to wait for the invited bids? Does the un-invited bid prevents the invited shipping business from responding?

When I check the box for freight, I get alot of motorcycles and atv's listings. If I want to ship these items, I will check the motorcycle box. How about uship removing the vehicles from the freight catagory.

I kinda feel that the person should have to pay a fee to place stuff on here instead of the carrier always having to pay the full amount. The people that place stuff on here thinks we the carriers bid there stuff high and we make a load of money hauling there stuff. Thats my oppion for what it is worth.

Help Determining freight class

First time I will be buying any freight, and was wondering if somebody could help me determine the freight class of what I would like shipped. What I am shipping is empty kegs(200 total, for 4 skids), and so far this is what I have came up with:

Kegs: Height-25", weight~8.5-9 lb's/each
Packing:50 to a normal skid(skid weighing about 60 lbs), packed 2 kegs high, i assume a skid is about 5" thick.

So, were looking at a density of (50x8.5+60)/((48x40x55)/1728)=~8 lbs/foot³, which is 110 right?

But then I read there were ways to reduce the freight class such as reducing shippers liability? So was my 110 number right, is there any way I can get the freight class lower to save money?

I am moving household goods that are almost all in either 16x12x12 or 18x18x16 U-haul branded boxes. I seem to keep getting to the part of this site where I am expected to list a limit of 5 boxes. I've logged out and now gone through the process twice, same result.

Tips for those of you who are shipping for the first time.

1- After you recieve bids go over the credentials of the bidder very carefully. For moves from one state to another ask mover for their DOT number, MC Number and make sure the mover has license and proper authority with FMCSA http://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/pkg_menu.prc_menu

2- Get a written estimate

3- Do not choose a mover just becuase they were the lowest bidder (biggest mistake)

4- Read your Right and Responsibilities document by Feds http://www.protectyourmove.gov/consumer/awareness/rights/rights.htm

5- Ask for Bill of Lading. Do not sign it without understanding it. Do not loose your copy.
