| When I had my new entrant audit they did a level 1 inspection for me then. And the guy told me anytime I wanted another to call him and he would come to do it again.

cpmarine (3/24/2007) Where can I get my truck and trailers DOT inspected? I am in New Jersey and no one knows anything about this. Who self inspects and if you are qualified where do you get the sticker?
annual CVSA level inspections should be done by a trained mechanic, i am more than qualified to do my own, but my insurance company will not allow it for liability reasons. go to any truck shop and ask for an annual inspection NOW, like a T/A shop somewhere, if you get caught on the road without a periodic inspection sticker, you can be fined and shut down, and they will provide you with a level one more detailed than you can imagine, it is much easier just to play by the rules today at. the exception to this rule is passing any level 1 inspection re-sets the 12 month calender

| Thanks guys. After looking at the sheet to certify the inspector I think I am also qualified but don't want to take the chance.

and like me, check with your insurance company to make sure they will let you do it too. mine hates that i repair my own equipment, they think it should go to a shop and be done by a certified mechanic, yeah right, i know several certified mechanics who break spark plugs and do not know what brake shoes goes towards the front, and which goes towards the back of a drum brake, or think they can learn as they go on replacing electric brakes on my trailer, one actualy tried to sell me the shoes, magnet, and pins for $250, plus one hour of labor per wheel for R&R, when i told him i could buy them pre-assembled at my dealer for $150 and install by r&R four backing bolts and two wires, they asked me not to come back ever again

You are not required to have a CVSA inspection sticker on your vehicles to meet DOT/FMCSA requirements. They do have to be inspected, but many regular state inspections suffice. Unfortunately for me, the state inspection in my home state of Missouri does not satisfy the criteria. I have to get everything inspected in an adjacent state such as IL or AR. A current CVSA sticker does discourage them from picking you out at roadside inspections or scale houses. The reason is that if your vehicle has been recently inspected and sports a CVSA decal they usually won't bother. Evidently they had been inspecting the same vehicles repeatedly and the little CVSA sticker lets them know when you've been inspected.......okay, I'm waiting for the disagreement... ..careful though because I'll prove you wrong!

| I ended up going to a TA truck stop to have it done. They didn't know what to do being it was only a pickup. But they checked everything they could and signed off on it. Even gave me a sticker. I know in New Jersey the state inspection sticker on a new vehicle is accepted by DOT for 1 year only. Where do you put the sticker on your truck I still have it with all my paperwork but haven't stuck it on the truck yet.
