| Just wondering if anybody out there has advise on how to get a job moving these thousands of travel trailers to the storm area. I heard that they will be doing this for months, both in and out of the hardest hit areas. Any advise would be great. I just want to drive and I'm willing to do it for anybody at $1.25 per mile. If there are big transporters out there with extra work, keep anything over $1.25. I don't care. Just trying to support my family. I'll drive 1000 miles per day. Thanks again.

One of my drivers hauling FEMA loads just hung up from telling me that the DOT regs have changed down there, they are now requiring FEMA to run across the scales, keep logs, etc. I will look into into it further and let everybody know about any changes. BTW, if you have a one-ton (or larger) and would be interested in hauling wide-loads for FEMA I can put you to work in that capacity (pays close to double the $1.10 - $1.15 per mile that travel trailers are paying, with shorter dead-heads). And that would include guaranteed employment hauling cars after the FEMA thing is exhausted - - vehiclevalet

One of my drivers hauling FEMA loads just hung up from telling me that the DOT regs have changed down there, they are now requiring FEMA to run across the scales, keep logs, etc. I will look into into... Just for info and follow-up: I hung up from a conversation with one of my drivers just a moment ago. The general gist was that the initial "rush" of existing trailers is pretty much over, and that the ones being moved now are those that are freshly manufactured. There are more trucks/drivers available than there are trailers being made, and the drivers now have to wait their turn in line to get a trailer as it comes off the assembly line (rather than having them piled up and waiting). Instead of 3 to 4 loads weekly like they have been getting the last few weeks, now will be lucky to get a couple of them weekly. This is apparantly not just in the south, either. She said conversations with other drivers (at the truck stops and staging areas in Baton Rouge LA and Purvis MS) left the impression there is pretty much the same situation nationwide. Also, effective Nov 28th the DOT rules change in Mississippi and Louisiana. The biggest immediate effect to my drivers is that haulers cannot drive later than 1/2 hour before sunset, nor earlier than 1/2 hour after sunrise if they are pulling anything wider than 8 1/2' (there are quite a few 9' and 10' wides going down there in addition to the 12 wides my people are pulling). This will also decrease driver's revenue, as they were driving at night a lot before. vehiclevalet

Additional info - The date is 11/21 (and not the 28th as I posted earlier). Also DOT/MCC numbers MUST be displayed after that date. Check the DOT website for other changes (stopping at the scales, logs, etc). vehiclevalet
