Bridgett:

Why would you use the Uship insurance?  If you TSP has the appropriate DOT/MC authority, the insurance would be included.

Good luck!

Greg

While most service providers are required by law to to carry some basic level of cargo insurance, it is often insufficient or may not have favorable terms for your particular shipment ($0.60/lb for household goods, e.g.). That is where other insurance options come in... The insurance that we offer (through a partner) is primary, all-risk insurance with a low deductible, excellent service and a great price. Many SP's also offer more coverage than basic minimums for an additional charge. Hope this helps!

Bridgett,

Below are just 2 of the many Forum Posts that have addressed this issue in the past.

It's worth taking the time to read these posts.

!!Protect yourself and your property!!

Did you acquire and VERIFY the validity of your chosen Carrier's FEDERALLY MANDATED DOT & MC #'s as per the UShip User Agreement?

http://www.uship.com/user_agreement.aspx

Note: Did you know that NO active "MC #" = No COMMERCIAL insurance?

OOPS !!!!!!!

INTERSTATE" transport requires an ACTIVE "MC" number! You verify it at the Government's "REAL TIME" web site: http://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/pkg_html.prc_limain

 Still don't understand? Read this:

I just called DAS, and they said that the DOT only requires $250 of ins coverage per car, and that if something happened to the car, damage would be covered by my insurance.  Is this right, or is there a ploy to get extra fees for extra coverage?

Then I want to know why the DOT has this posted right on my Insurance page on there web site.

* If a carrier is in compliance, the amount of coverage will always be shown as the required Federal minimum ($5,000 per vehicle, $10,000 per occurrence for cargo insurance and $10,000 for bond/trust fund). The carrier may actually have higher levels of coverage.

I have higher levels but this is the least amount they require, sounds like DAS is trying to pocket that extra $199.00 for some extra cash, maybe thats why they can bid so low then they have all these extra fees that they charge. People see there price and THINK. WOW look how cheap they are, then you have to take the car to them and pick it up at there place "OR ITS EXTRA" you want it enclosed "ITS EXTRA" you want your car on the top so nothing drips or leaks on it "OH ITS EXTRA" you want your car faster than a month "OH ITS EXTRA" by the time you are done adding up all the "EXTRAS" you are twice the price as when you started. Dont take my word for it go to there site and you can put all the info in yourself and you will see for yourself.

OK just my rant, I will step down now and haul cars for $.35 per mile

USE A DOT COMPLIANT CARRIER ONLY

Its the Federal Law that anyone that transports ANYTHING for any kind of PAYMENT be a DOT COMPLIANT CARRIER. It doesnt matter if its as small as a BREADBOX or as large as a ARMY TANK the CARRIER NEEDS to be

DOT COMPLIANT

Ask for their INSURANCE COMPANY INFO before your shipment is picked up to protect yourself from loosing your item.

I am now just using this site for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSED ONLY and will not bid on or take a shipment from this site

Briggett go one step further, call your insurance agent and tell them you are thinking of using a TRANSPORTATION COMAPNY to transport your car or truck. Ask them who's Insurance will cover ANY DAMAGE to your car or truck and see what they say, I would bet yours wont pay or be the PRIMARY INSURANCE (maybe your's will pick up any deductable if you are lucky) because if they did why would the FED's require us to have Insurance, its like DOUBLE COVERAGE and we all know Insurance companys dont want to pay if they dont have to dont we.

Just a little FYI

Bridgett, sorry for misspelling your name in my other post by the way, do yourself a favor and go read through the pages of feedback they have, I DID and all I can say is WOW. They talk about all the extra fees and price changes and how long it takes to ship a car. Uship has a RULE "ALL BIDS INCLUSIVE" but I guess it doesnt happen with this place because I bet 90% of the cancellations they have are for EXTRA COSTS.

I transport with a enclosed trailer only and do door to door and I get shippers tell me I charge to much and want there cars shipped for $.35 per mile, maybe I should point them in the DAS direction.

Just my rant
