If I'm reading this right you don't need your home town and state anymore? Also I was told not to put the MC number on because someone could use it for fuel purchases in like IN and you would be getting the taxes from them applied to you? So with that in mind do you think it's a good idea to post them here?

I don't understand what that would be about.  Even at the exempt pumps in IN they're only concerned with the DOT# or company name.  I'm not sure how or why the fuel tax would relate to your MC#.  Can you ask whomever told you that to explain?  I'd like to know what I'm missing.

I knew there was some recent changes to how the trucks had to be lettered, but I didn't know they had removed the requirement for the GVW.  The only thing I had read was that you no longer needed the company's location or address any more.  I don't think....could be wrong on this one....that I recall the MC# was ever required.  My mind is a little fuzzy lately from doing nothing so much.. ..but I'm damn good at it now.

Well Eric I don't run over 26000 so I'm not filing IFTA but in IN at a TA the guy with the clipboard came out and asked for it when i was fueling in the truck isle I told him i was private then the cashier asked next same thing happened in TN on 40 at the pilot. I thinking I could have given them the truck's number next to me they wouldn't have checked

Don, The reason I asked about MC number is because I have seen trucks with them listed. My son drives for Warner he brought the idea up about not posting the MC number and when he said that I thought about the two times I was asked for it.

Sometimes they send someone out to the pumps get truck/company info to prevent drive-offs.  Could this be the case?

At the home terminal in NC, prepareing for a week in HI.  Anyone need something taken to or brought back from the Big Island?

I still enter the MC number at the Indiana pumps . Unless things have changed lately , exempt fuel in Indiana is only exempt for companies meeting certain conditions . I saw a driver with a pickup owned by an industrial cleaning company give his DOT number and the woman at the fuel desk checked it and said it wasn't an exempt company . By rights you aren't entitled to the exemption if you haven't filled out this form . http://www.in.gov/dor/taxforms/pdfs/st-105.pdf .

More info on that here . http://www.in.gov/dor/reference/bulletins/sales/pdf/sib15.pdf . Many fuel stops don't confirm the exempt status . I've heard the Revenue Department will send a tax bill to people that just used their DOT number without an exemption certificate . So it's true you could get a tax bill if you haven't filed for exemption and someone used your DOT number . In the past you would be required to sign the back of the fuel slip . Now Pilot has a fuel and go system that doesn't require receipts .

How would that be based on the MC# since many, or perhaps most contract carriers are IRP/IFTA and allowed to use exempt pumps?
