I am starting a small operation and at first I am starting REALLY small.
I'm going to be working on the weekends picking small freight and single cars. I want single car hauler for a couple of reasons.
1st- Its a smaller investment...so I can pay cash
2nd- At first I am not going to have a great amount of time to wait for the perfect load to build. I just want to grab something go and get home. (so I can get back to my day job)
3rn- I need time to learn before I go big time. Unlike most of you I don't have much experience hauling big loads. I know there is going to be some learning curve.

What I am looking for is: Wood Deck, 20', Dual Axle, bump/ strap rail, dove tail, wide as possible, and well built.

Who would build such a trailer at a reasonable cost?

Stay away from H&H and Mirage no matter how good of deal you get from them. I currently use a 24ft Titan split tilt wood deck with a GVWR of 14k you'll see in my pics that has never let me down not once and didn't break the bank neither. Just my opinion and experience.

I really don't see how you can work like this , be legal and make any money . Have you checked insurance costs ? I hope you realize time on your day job has to be logged as on duty and goes against your 14 hour day and 70 hours in 8 days . That means you can't start work at 6 a.m. on a Friday , come home and start a weekend run Friday night unless you are done by 8 p.m. . Once you start the 14 hour clock only an 8 hour sleeper or 10 hour off duty break will stop it .

Still waiting on your authority to be granted yet you have already hauled something....?
Also, you have your BIPD, but what about Cargo insurance? Doesn't look like you have that yet....
In your profile you say ins up to $50k... you might want to change that statement, because it is supposed to be $100k for autos I believe. arent the numbers 75k, 100k, 500k cargo and 750k, 1m, 5m BIPD? Where do these guys keep coming up with 50?
Laterz,
Gator

P.S. Kydriver: Where does it say that we can take an 8hr sleeper berth? That is the old rules... 10 hrs required now, weather you are off duty or sleeper... If I am wrong on that one, someone PLEASE show me the current ruling that says 8!!!!

good morning
Down To Earth out of Climax or Baxley Ga, I can't remeber which is good.Belmont out of Pa. is good. There are plenty of these types trailer on ebay and you could probably qualify for online financing via HSBC bank or the like, furthermore a lot of trailer dealers use Sheffield Finance for their products and you more than likely would qualify.

Robert I would be interested in your trailer

But I have no idea how we can get in touch, it looks like it against the rules to post any contact information.

Maybe I could post an shipment and let you win it for a dollar

I have a couple of trailers left over from when I was operating.  They may not be exactly what you're describing, but they're both great trailers for someone just starting out in the business.  One it a 25' Gator, tandem axle, single rear wheel gooseneck rated at 14,000 LBS GVWR.  It has a wood deck (20') and fold flat ramps on the 5' dovetail.  It is the full 102" width, the maximum legal width on the interstate without being OW.  It also has all the goodies including a light bar with flood lights forward and back, chain/tool box, spare, LED running and brake lights, several added 5,000 lb D rings as well as the rail down the length of the side.  It originally came as a dual ramp but I had a custom solid center ramp added so I could load narrow front end tractors and boat trailers.  It also has a Warn TI 16.5 winch that is mounted on a custom frame mount.  It is about as versatile as you'll find and allows you to haul about anything up to near 10,000 lbs including vehicles, construction equipment, farm tractors, or flatbed cargo.

The other trailer is a 42' (OAL) 35' solid metal low deck Imperial (tri-axle gooseneck) two car hauler with integral slide out ramps.  The Imperial has recently had the entire brake system completely refurbished including all new drums and brake assemblies on every axle.  It is rated at 14,500 GVWR so it can be towed with any 3/4 ton and many 1 tonners without a CDL.

Both are in excellent condition and ready to go to work.  I'll guarantee they'll pass DOT inspection and I'll even get them inspected and have fresh DOT decals on them for an additional $35.  You can see pictures of both in my profile pix.  They're located in Missouri about half way between Memphis and St. Louis.  I could also deliver them anywhere in the CONUS for a reasonable fee.  Look me up if you think you might be interested in either..........
