I've looked around and can't find an answer.  Is there any protection from Uship if I ship a motorcycle through a shipper found through the site and they damage or destroy my bike?  What if my bike is picked up and never seen again?

The first paragraph says it all if you read it:

1. uShip is a Neutral Venue. uShip is not a transportation service provider (TSP), freight forwarder or broker. Our site acts as a venue where shippers and TSPs can meet and enter into agreements. We are not involved in the actual transaction between shippers and TSPs. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety, or legal aspects of the transactions that take place on our website. uShip does not prequalify or validate the claims of TSPs including with respect to their licensure, insurance and registration. We and our website function solely as a neutral venue and digital clearinghouse where two parties may agree on a price for a particular type of service. We are the neutral venue for this connection between you and other members. We do not provide any endorsement for you or your services, you acknowledge and agree that we do not provide the services and we are not in any way responsible for assisting you in any manner with your provision of the services. We cannot and will not guarantee the ability of members to complete payment for any of the provided services. Furthermore, due to the difficulty of individual authentication, especially on the Internet, we cannot and will not in any manner verify or confirm the identity or ability of members to pay for the provided services. You acknowledge and agree that any and all communications, correspondence, verbal or written, or any warranties or representations, made with regard to the services are not provided by us and are specifically and solely between you and the other member. Because we are not involved in the actual transaction between shippers and TSPs, we have no control over the accuracy of listings, the ability of TSPs to transport items, or the ability of shippers to send items. We cannot ensure that a shipper or TSP will actually complete a shipment.

Is there any protection from Uship if I ship a motorcycle through a shipper found through the site and they damage or destroy my bike? (NO, uShip is a neutral venue)

What if my bike is picked up and never seen again? (YOU LOSE A BIKE AND PROBABLY THE MONEY PAID TO SHIP IT)

Protect yourself by hiring only a compliant motor carrier.  Verify they're licensed and insured through the FMCSA database.  uShip provides instructions to do this. (if you need help just ask here in the forum)  As was pointed out earlier, read and understand the User's Agreement and use the shipper's tips (motorcycle shipping) provided.  You can safely use uShip if you do your research.  The majority of the lower bids are frequently from haulers that are not licensed for interstate transport and many do not have commercial cargo insurance.  Compliant motor carriers are regulated and licensed by US DOT's FMCSA.  You do have some recourse if you use a compliant carrier and there is an unfortunate issue.  If you use a hauler that isn't registered and insured, it is like handing off your bike to a total stranger that you have never seen before and may never see again.  Feedback alone shouldn't be the only consideration when selecting a carrier.   As uShip states in every profile, that information is provided by the member and is NOT verified by uShip.

Good luck //  Don

MotorCycle Transport link:

http://www.uship.com/motorcycles/articles/Choosing-a-motorcycle-transporter/

You should choose your motorcycle transporter based on their authority, insurance, and experience. Only once you verify carriers’ credentials should you start to compare quotes and service levels. There are enough legal, experienced motorcycle carriers available that you should have no problem finding one that fits your needs.

Verify transport authority

All legal motorcycle carriers are required to be registered with the Department of Transportation. A carrier’s authority can be verified by checking their DOT or MC numbers at www.safersys.org. In addition to checking your motorcycle transporter’s registration, verify that they are legally allowed to ship motor vehicles.

Check insurance coverage

All motorcycle transporters should carry a minimum amount of insurance coverage. You should ask your carrier for a copy of their certificate of insurance. On this document, you will find the details of their insurance policy along with contact information for the insurance company. Check the information provided on the certificate with the insurance company listed or through the Department of Transportation at www.safersys.org.

Did you acquire and VERIFY the validity of your chosen Carrier's FEDERALLY MANDATED DOT & MC #'s as per the UShip User Agreement?

Note: Did you know that NO active "MC #" = No COMMERCIAL insurance?

OOPS !!!!!!!

INTERSTATE transport requires an ACTIVE "MC" number! You verify it at: http://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/pkg_html.prc_limain
