| Hey John, Tim, Mike or any of the other guys in Texas..... I have a request to haul 3 pallets, approximately 1,000 lbs. each from El Paso to Dothan, AL. They're to be picked up on a military base, although I don't recall a base in El Paso so I don't know which one it is. You'd have to assume there is no forklift available at either end. However some of those with military or government backgrounds would probably be able to solve that problem and get a fork lift to use. But to be safe, you should assume that you would need to provide a pallet jack or lift gate. I initially quoted $712.50 with the customer providing a fork lift and loading/unloading assistance at both ends. That was also before I knew it was on a military reservation too, and that adds to the cost because of the time and hassle of security. The shipper had no problem with the initial quote and understands that the circumstances (loading & military base) of the load will increase the costs. I just thought I'd check to see if anyone would be interested in running a 3 thousand pound load that may pay pretty well for the size. I'm guessing he might go up to $1,200 to $1,400, but that is only speculation on my part. You'd have to negotiate directly with the shipper and he seems like a very reasonable and understanding person. Let me know if there's any interest... Don....

| Don, I can't do it. I've voluntarily inactivated my authority. Note: Was suppose to be already working for Uncle Sam again until a RIF occured in Germany. The RIF bumped me out of the position at the very last minute by someone with a higher hiring priority. mercy mercy Ft Bliss is in El Paso. FYI: Forklifts are usually readily available where the surplus sales are conducted and merchandise is picked up. The guys/gals who run those yards/locations on Army installations are also civilian.

I've been to Bliss surplus before, they have a fork and aren't normally too bad to deal with.
However, I'm keeping rather busy with ACME right here in South/Central/East Texas! Have you asked Zuri yet?

If you think he might be interested feel free to pass my info to him and let him call or email me. I have not heard back from the guy with the shipment for a couple of days so I don't know if he's had it hauled or not. I would rarely go on base to pick up a load because of the hassle. Even with a retired military ID and base decals on my trucks, their hours were usually too restrictive and it just wasn't worth it. The last time I attempted to pick up a surplus vehicle at Little Rock AFB, I had to make three trips because either the surplus pick up office wasn't open that day or the paper work wasn't right. Once, even with an designated appointment, the only person that could sign and release it was out sick.....another wasted trip.

I terminated my authority for reasons by far different than lack of profit etc. But I won't get into that here. For it's none of your business. A look at my feedback record will show that I stopped using this site for loads for the most part well over a year ago. I've done quite well elsewhere and enjoy the heck out of cross country, meeting people etc..... I will give you credit identifying that many haul for nothing/almost nothing here on this board. But those who do so also don't have the Federally mandated overhead. Do you know what I mean? Are you looking in the mirror?

I would rarely go on base to pick up a load because of the hassle. I had to go to Quantico Marine base once to pick up a motorcycle from the FBI training academy. Figured there would be alot of hassle but the guy said he would tip big so I went. Got to the main gate, 5 marines in full battle gear carrying M-1s (guess that what they were) were waiting as I pulled up. Stated my business and the sargent looks at me and says "IS THIS A REPO?" I said "NO" and he said "HAVE A NICE DAY" and waved me through. No search of the truck or trailer, no ID check and never glanced at my paperwork. Who would have thunk it was that easy to get onto Quantico. This was also after 9-11. I was besides myself.
