I am in the market to purchase a horse trailer (gooseneck) from another state. How do I locate someone who will pull the trailer and deliver it to me? I live in CA and have been looking at horse trailers with living quarters in the following states: OK, MO, FL, TX, NM.

I need to find someone who will be beable to bring the trailer to me, (if I find one)...

Thanks

Sheila

First you READ THE USHIP USER AGREEMENT, you agreed to it take the time to read it.

Then you list your shipment and wait for bids, then you use the links uship provides and research your TSPs and finally choose the one with the proper authority to bring your trailer to you. DO NOT let price be the sole factor in your choice. Remember when you pay less you will most likely get less.

Are you buying new or used? If new, look into C Bar C Trailers in Chicksha, OK. Greg over there is extremely helpful, and still runs his business on the old principals of get the customer what they want etc, etc... I think he also has the ability to deliver...
Good luck, and make sure to verify authority and INSURANCE!!!!

Sheila,

Even though you clearly state that you are in the market for a horse trailer, UShip's Boat transport link is the closest thing that you can use as a guide when choosing a Carrier. The same rules apply as far as Carrier's credentials etc.......

Boat transport link:

http://www.uship.com/Boats/articles/choosing-boat-carrier/

When shipping a large boat or yacht, it is essential that you find a reputable transport company who has the proper equipment, experience and authority to safely ship your boat. It is your responsibility to ensure that the boat transport company you choose is reputable and that your boat arrives at its destination with no problems. Researching a boat shipping company’s authority, insurance and past business record will help you determine if you can trust them with shipping your valuable boat or yacht.

Check Boat Transport Authority

Before considering any boat transport company, you must check that the company has Federal Motor Carrier Authority and Federal DOT Authority. Any legal boat carrier should be able to provide their MC or DOT numbers, and any responsible shipper should verify these at www.safersys.org to make sure the carrier is registered for boat transport.

Verify Boat Shipping Insurance

Once you’ve determined that a transporter is legally authorized to ship your boat, verify their insurance. Request a certificate of insurance from the service provider. Any legal carrier is responsible for carrying a minimum of cargo and liability insurance, but you will want to verify your chosen carrier’s specific coverage. When evaluating a boat transportation company’s insurance policy, keep in mind the following:

Double check any insurance information you are provided. Check with their insurance company or on www.safersys.org to make sure that the company is in fact insured and that their policy has not expired.

Do not accept a carrier who says your boat will be covered under their Personal Insurance Policy. They must provide a Commercial Insurance Policy in order to carry property they do not own.

Check that your boat transport company provides cargo insurance (NOT just liability insurance). This is the only kind of insurance that will cover your boat.

Valuate your boat and ensure your boat carrier’s cargo policy offers coverage of equal or greater value than your boat.

Be clear about deductibles and the process for claims. Ask how quickly claims are handled and how you should submit damages.

If a transporter’s cargo policy is inadequate, request that they purchase short-term additional coverage for your boat. In this case, get a copy of the short-term policy and verify it.
