Hey LongHaul, welcome to the bottom of the barrel, I use to run a 1 place enclosed trailer and its hard to brake even with that size trailer, now I have a 34 foot enclosed and its even hard to make money with it. You might be better off hauling motorcycles than cars and thats what I do now because people wont pay squat to ship a car but they will for a TOY like a bike or Jet Ski, also as far as CD you can use the site but just make sure you go with COD PAYMENTS only. I had a broker pay me only after I filed a claim towards his BOND COMPANY and I waited over 3 months for $2500.00 so I will only do COD's now.

Also CD isnt paying better than this place as I just looked up where you are from and by the way I use to live there back 25 years ago great area but this is a listing from the CD site, check out what they are paying. "2003 jeep liberty $100 373 mi ($0.27/mi)" Here is another "08 acura tsx – call mike cash on delivery $450 cod 942 mi ($0.48/mi)"

Not very much is it, so unless you can make it for around $.60 per mile save yourself the money CD charges unless you get yourself a 3 or 4 car wedge or a MULTICAR TRANSPORT like the big trucks run. Thats what that site is geared for no a days. If I can help in any way let me or the great bunch of guys here on the site know.

Just a word of warning, "WATCH OUT FOR 1MEANDOG"  he gets cranky in the afternoons unless he is hanging out @ the local watering hole.

Tony

USE A DOT COMPLIANT CARRIER ONLY

Its the Federal Law that anyone that transports ANYTHING for any kind of PAYMENT be a DOT COMPLIANT CARRIER. It doesnt matter if its as small as a BREADBOX or as large as a ARMY TANK the CARRIER NEEDS to be

DOT COMPLIANT

Ask for their INSURANCE COMPANY INFO before your shipment is picked up to protect yourself from loosing your item.

I am now just using this site for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSED ONLY and will not bid on or take a shipment from this site

So, how do I get the 3 references required for CD and others?

It will take some time, but just use your first 3 loads you do off u$hip.  CD wont care who they are as long as you gave them good service.

Last I checked, Barrett-Jackson does not arrange for transportation of the vehicles that they sell.  It is up to the buyer to get their vehicles hauled away.  Nor do any off the other "regular" auctions I have asked.  I know off one auction that has their own small fleet.

I've never been to keen on showing up at an auction, on auction day, hoping to get some work.  Maybe if you live close enough to one.  The closest one to my house is over an hour and it is a little one.  I suppose if you did it enough though you would make some regular contacts.

I wouldn’t be afraid of working with brokers off CD.  It will take you some time to get a feel for who the good (HA-HA) ones are and who the bad ones are.  Just learn what you need to make and what rates to expect for different mileages and areas of the country.  Look me up if you need help with this.  Don’t let them walk on you.  Ask for more if you need to and if they don’t want to give it, don’t take the load.

I rarely take a load after asking for more money if they won’t give it.

I don’t know of any other load boards specific to vehicles like CD

Now, I will start this with a disclaimer... I am NOT a car hauler, NOR do I have any desire to become one!
But, I have hauled bunches and bunches of tractors/equipment/etc... and plenty from auctions! Most auctions send out correspondences of some sort (flyers) prior to the auction, and often those 'flyers' are 'sponsored' (advertisements). If you have the equipment to support a specific sized auction (I would think you would need at least a 3-car for a small auction and probably a few trucks for a medium sized auction...) then placing an ad on one of those flyers prior to the auction, then being there with your truck and trailer nice and shiny/show room quality... It's possible!
