i was almost scammed by brokers when looking into moving from nm to sc. now i'm starting from scratch again, and i'm very hesitant to use a big company (thinking of bekins) because of all the bad reviews i've read. i had someone offer (he hasn't bid yet) to move my stuff, but i need to know how i can be sure he won't take my money and run. i read his reviews which are all positive, but i'm sure if someone is sneaky enough they could write their own reviews. i'd like to know i can trust this guy to help me move, and i'd also like to know what steps i'd take if something went wrong. i'm new to uship. obviously. thanks.

Household Goods link:

Moving an entire household is stressful enough without having to deal with a disreputable moving company. When hiring professional movers, time spent investigating a company can save you a lot of money and heartache. You should know that the movers you hire are credentialed, insured, and experienced.

Check insurance coverage

In addition to being registered with the Department of Transportation, all household moving companies are required to carry a minimum amount of liability and cargo insurance. Coverage varies from mover to mover, so be sure to ask for each company's specific policy.

I feel the same way. I am just not feeling secure with the listings here. It is very easy to arrange write-up's by specific individuals (this is one reason I stopped using eBay - did not feel the reviews were trustworthy after one experience I'd had) thus negating the reference/ratings feature and so far, I've just not felt sufficient trust to be able to accept any of the bids I have that are currently pending.

With each of the shipping services that contacted me thus far, I asked them for information as to the insurance they offer. One of them said they'd provide that information AFTER I accepted their bid. That's backwards to me. I asked a reasonable question any consumer would and should ask in order to make an informed purchasing decision. It would be ridiculous and foolhardy to ask such questions AFTER you've already signed a contract - that's the whole purpose of asking such questions. Other shipping services that have bid so far haven't even noted possession of any insurance whatsoever.

Today, though, I was able to find via the internet a company in my area which seems to deal in moving the type of item I need shipped and they are clearly licensed and insured and all of the information regarding precisely what insurance they carry, licensing, et al is clearly the real thing. Their clients include a few well known businesses so at this point, I am considering just hanging the whole idea of using UShip though it was a good idea at least in theory.

Good luck to you and know that you're not alone in your worries.

Also new to uship here. I don't have a lot of stuff to move, which is why I would like to find an alternative to a regular moving company that's going to charge me for more weight than I have. Is it safe to trust a bidder without a lot of reviews? I'm not really sure how to decide between a moving company and a bid received here. However, I am tired of moving companies calling me relentlessly and bad-mouthing the other companies I receive quotes from (which has been going on for the past week). I don't know who to believe anymore!

Uships user agreement forbids contact outside of the site prior to bid acceptance, which is why that provider stated he would provide insurance after bid acceptance. Most provider will tell you the same. I state my coverage in my profile. As far as feedback don't use somebody with little feedback. It costs money to leave feedback so they won't do it 50 times to be deceptive. Use somebody with a decent amount of feedback and minimal amounts of negative (if any. I have one) I was also told that if you badmouth competition unfounded you are just as bad as your description. I hope this helps as I'm not asking for your business because my business is motorcycle and boats so think of me as a nuetral party. Good day!
