I just calculated the rates for a haul or two and that's nuts. 20.00 on a 100.00 haul? on a 2k haul it's 175.00. That;s fuel costs. Nothing free here.

Uship would eliminate alot of problems, reduce the dead listing rate and fake listers and even keep alot of decent haulers around if they started charging customers to list stuff while cutting the rate for us TSPs. Of course there are other things that would also help but as far as the rates go I believe that would be a good way to start. Of course, that's just my take on it.

I just can't understand the logic behind charging those rates for the shippers. Why not just charge a flat fee for listing a shipment or wait until the person lists the item accepts the bid. Leave the shipper out of the process. Oh that's right, we live in the greadiest country in the world. I wish I had the funds to compete against them, I'd set it up to be user friendly and there would be one flat rate.

This is consierably less then what the average broker charges you. The only difference is here you can see what the charges are and when you book loads through a broker you cant. Most brokers should be around 10%, but the industry average closer to 25% and there are many charging 35% to 40%. You just dont see it. On a $2000 load a good broker will be collecting $200, but many others will be taking $400 to $800. The agents you talk with maybe getting 3% to 10% themselves, but the corporations will usually take 20% to 30% right off the top then the agent gets to mark up whats left. I operate both a brokerage and a Motor carrier. Brokers as a whole are not bad, they help keep your trucks moving when you cant. Many carriers will use brokers to get them back to their regular customers. A lot of others use them so they dont have to go out and get customers themselves, either because they dont have time, dont know how, or just dont want to.

Uship fees truely are cheaper then the standard brokers fees and looking at the carriers bids they will usually charge much less then a broker does to the customers as well.

The difference is Uship does not check out any of the carriers they list; if their insurance is good, what their current safety rating is ect. They take zero responsibility at the time of the shipment for any damages nor do they pay contingent cargo insurance and bonds. A good 3PL does all of this and then some which increases their cost of business. Customers and Carriers are very willing to pay for that kind of service as they actually get value for the service that is provided. I agree that uShip's fees are too high for what they provide.

For Uship not to be a broker they sure are charging alot of money. They are making alot more than other load boards. This board has one major design flaw and that is they allow illegals on here knowingly and do nothing about it. Thats the biggest reason Uship has so many enemies. If they would do whats right life would be so much easier fo them and they would be making more money too. 10% of $1,000 sure is alot more than 10% of $100. Take the crackheads off and screen your carriers. Makes good business sense to me.

With all due respect. that isn't why the good old boy network is down on uship.. This site is cutting out the middlemen. As i'm sure you know the brokers answer to no one. there isnt any fed. oversite of brokers. There's loads out there that get brokered 3 and 4 times. I dont see how that pays more to the o/o..

DID YOU SAY THAT THIS SITE IS CUTTING OUT THE MIDDLE MAN?
THIS SITE is THE MIDDLE MAN...unless you already know how to get in touch with the shippers.
I'm not knockin the site but they are infact taking the place of the broker while not actually being a broker....smart. There will always be a middle man.
