How do I get my shipper to pay all the expenses I incurred when he lost my pet enroute? I am out over $200 in expenses--rewards, boarding expenses, newspaper ads, etc all because he lost my cat. All I ask is to pay my out of pocket expenses. This includes a vet visit to get him dewormed and a flea treatment (as he was lost in the woods for six days) before my NEW shipper gets him. I have an email from him that says he will do so but he called me on the phone today and was very nasty. He wants me to cancel the shipment on uship and not leave any negative feedback. Then he says he will send me SOME money. If I do that how will I know he will follow thru? I have contacted my new shipper and she says NO WAY. It's not fair to people reading his feedback who may hire him in the future.

I really thought this man was a really nice guy but he says I am trying to take advantage of him. I am not asking for one dime beyond what I have had to pay due to his mistake.

I don't know what to do. I need this money. If I were rich I would have flown the cat to me. This is why I went thru uship--I'm not rich. Plus this was a rescue cat situation. I was just trying to give an abandoned cat a home. What are my options? I don't even have his address. Any help would be appreciated.

You should definately leave negative feedback, detailing exactly what happened. Who knows if this has happened before and he has gotten
away with it. I'd keep all documentation on the shipment,e-mails,contracts etc. and demand that he reimburse you for all incurred expenses.
File a claim with his insurance company if he has any,and if all else fails contact an attorney. My guess is he maybe an illegal transporter in the first place....who was it?

At this point uship has been very helpful in telling my 1st shipper what his obligations are. He promised to pay my expenses in finding my cat. I'm in Texas and the cat was let out of his cage (in Atlanta) because they did not put a litterbox in it. I guess they expected my cat to hold it from Miami to Fort Worth. He then called me and was extremely angry saying he couldn't stand me and he would not pay me back a dime until I cancelled the shipment and agreed to leave no feedback except the shipment was cancelled. He told me this was the SECOND time a cat got away. If you would like the read the story it made the front page news in Forsyth Co. http://www.forsythnews.com/news/article/2706/ I don't want to hurt his business as it looks like he has done a great job shipping dogs and vehicles. He just didn't understand that cats are not dogs. He also said he should sue me because my cat scratched him. I told him if he wouldn't have let the cat out and then grab it he never would have gotten scratched. Cosmo is a very docile, shy cat who was frightened to death by what happened. I am out nearly $300. My new shipper says I should put the story in uship as it is not fair to other people to NOT know how he handled this. My aim is to get my cat to Texas and get my expenses paid. PERIOD. Do you think this is unreasonable?

I understand you just want to get reimbursed by the shipper but I think you are missing a few KEY points here:
* He told you this is the second time a cat has got away? Was it anywhere in his feedback?
* He obviously is only intrested in protecting is feedback when he states he is not paying you for your expenses until you cancel the
shipment .
* Shippers on this site review previous feedback to select a transporter for there items. If you don't leave accurate feedback this guy will
continue to use poor judgement when transporting and handling animals.
* Would you just want your $ 300.00 back if god forbid Cosmo had been hit by a car at the gas station and killed?
You should not let this guys threats of not paying you or suing you stand in the way of doing whats right. I'm sure if you contact your
attorney and send this transporter a simple certifited letter demanding you be reimbursed he will react accordingly.
You should also alert the Federal Motor Carriers Administration and file a complaint with them.

Are you going to let this carrier get away with the way he talked to you? Is he a legal carrier or a illegal carrier?

Uship was VERY helpful in letting my shipper know that he was in the wrong with regards to the feedback. He has since got in touch with me and very nicely told me he would pay my expenses. I was lucky to find a vet who gave Cosmo free boarding. That lessened the total expenses to under $200. I will send a donation to that vet out of my pocket as that is my decision to give them something. As far as the feedback goes, the shipper says he is never going to ship cats again. He has wonderful feedback on dogs and even a few cats. I thank you very much for your help in this matter. I should have my boy here by Monday and my new shipper is wonderful. I feel very much that this was just an ignorant mistake on his part but he is making it right. If Cosmo would not have been found and would maybe have been killed then I definitely would have gone the legal route.

After speaking to me in the manner that he did, I sent him an email explaining to him that his verbal attack on me was unwarranted and that from now on he would speak with my husband. My husband called him and the shipper asked my husband very nicely if I would call him back. My husband then explained to him - politely - that he had better not speak to me the way he did or "there would be hell to pay". He agreed and from then on we had nice conversations.

I think the people at uship were instrumental in negotiating this. I told him he could call any person I have spoken to regarding this shipment and talk to them about how I have been to work with. I have nothing to hide. I work in customer service and have a very good record with regards to how I treat people and how I expect to be treated.

I tried to put myself in my shipper's position, if this happened to me and I lost a pet, how would I want to be treated? I treated him the same way until he started screaming at me on the phone saying I was taking advantage of him. He didn't seem to think wanting my cat dewormed and flea control was necessary. He said he will now compensate me.

He was working with another transporter who lives in Miami. The 2nd shipper picked the cat up and brought him to Atlanta where they exchanged him. The lady who had the cat said she told the 1st guy that they needed a litterbox and NOT to let him out of the cage. Since it was the 1st guy's fault in not doing this I decided to let my shipper "off the hook" a little as he wasn't the one who put this chain of events into motion.

Still, if they are going to work together, the man I hired is ultimately responsible to let others who are helping him transport understand how to handle a given shipment.

YOU are the 'shipper'.

The person moving/delivering the items are the transporter.
