You will need 1 million liability (that is spelled out in regs., it is a gas powered vehicle), permits will depend on the state, yes you need to stop at weigh stations as your COMBINED GVWR would be over 10k (add up the door sticker gross weight of truck and manufactures gross weight on trailer). You will need an MC# in addition to DOT#.

Thanks for the info,I knew about getting the DOT# dont know what is a mc# or how to apply for that. Also what is the cheapest insurance company out there to get business and cargo insurance?Looks like im looking at over $2,000 to $4,000 to get started, wow.I read few post about some transporters paying around $5,000 up to $15,000 a year on just the insurance aloan.I only got 1 truck, dodge ram 1500.Not plaining on pulling anything heaver than 3500 bls, small boats.

You guys in these pickups are the topic of conversation all over the country.I have been in the trucking business on and off for 30 years.I have done nothing but oversize boats the last 15 years.I have been in the hotshot business in the 80's as well. You can and will tear up a one ton running cross country with even the lightest of loads. You can run a single axle big truck cheaper than a pickup truck..I have done the math and examined the smaller boat business at times and can see no way that anyone can earn a living at the prices I have seen.Legal or not.Boat transporting is a real different animal when you get into the oversize ones. You can not get permits unless you are up on insurance and have the proper filings with every state. There does seem to be many others on there own trailers that are smaller but they want them towed cheaper than they can do it theirselves and someone always falls for it out of desperation,People are towing these with no insurance(Insurance has to be boat specific to cover boats)or inadequate coverage. When stopped they tell them it is for a freind or family member,ect...until they catch the wrong cop.He can make it painfull.I am all for free enterprise but please do it legfal all the way and reali9ze you do not want to haul boats atb the price of hauling lumber.......the overhead is considerable...tduncan55(ThomasDuncanTrucking)

Yes you will tear up a new type one ton, but put some money into building the right mechanical Cummins and it can be a good long lasting truck. Take care of it, don't beat it, drive it right and maintain it right.
